Oh... FUDGE!

Forget Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, ELLE, and such. I'm a little bit vintage-hearted, so while I love almost every editorial those bigwigs have made, it's the editorials of Fudge Magazine that really captures my imagination. Their style walks the fine line between quirky, vintage and cutting-edge (being Japanese of origin, would you expect anything less? ;P).

If you love vintage, you'll love Fudge.

And so, time for some imagegasm (courtesy of clever nettle). Thanks Ms. Verdugo! :D

Thrifting Adventure #4

I think I have truly become obsessed with thrifting. My closet now consists of 40% thrifted stuff. And guess what? There isn't much space left. I so need to have a closet clearance... but will anyone buy my mostly unweared (yes, the horror!) stuff? (I haz an unweared, brand-new black cheongsam in good condition, among other goodies!)

But while I ponder over whether I'm willing to part with any of them and if it will all be a waste of time in the end because no one will want to buy my stuff...

As usual, please forgive my lousy photos. T__T

Remember my obsession with nude? Well they have manifested themselves physically through these:

Peach-coloured slightly sheer blouse from Carrefour Wangsa Maju's thrift stall.

Close-up of the details on the collar and the pocket.

Nude-coloured long-sleeved formal blouse. Also from Carrefour.

I'm saving this as my CNY dress... have to strengthen resolve to not wear it till then! From Carrefour.

Oh and I have found a darling flapper lookalike dress! Waistless and slightly frilly. Love it.
 From Carrefour as well.

I went back to that wonderful thrift shop in Sg Wang as well and scored these skirts, each for RM5:

Wool plaid skirt - I snagged it because its fall hues are reminiscent of Zara.

One of my best finds... a baby blue (Zooey Deschanel came to mind at once) GAP skirt.
And if you see closely there is a lacey lining underneath, making this skirt a full one. Yay!

And now back to my normal haunt at Amcorp Mall... I was a good girl and refrained from emptying the entire contents of my purse. Instead I kept myself to my RM20 budget and walked away with these:

Its cuteness is indescribable.
Dusty pink? Check. Babydoll cutting? Check. Full skirt? Check. Poofy sleeves? Check. Hoodie? Check.
It is awesome.

Last but certainly not least, an Alice-like dress in baby blue stripes, a gorgeous lacey hem (not seen clearly here) and adorable daisies around the collar (yes, those are cloth daisies, hehe).
Love the full swing skirt as well.

Sooner or later I'm not going to be able to fit them all into my closet... eeeps! I need to stop spending! Consider my CNY shopping done. ;P

I'll leave you guys with a song that best describes my mindscape for now...

Oh and just wondering... if I were to sell some of my preloved clothes (many still in good condition, though have been through at least one time of washing)... would anyone be interested? Heehee.

Homegrown and Gooooood :D

I should probably quit surfing the net altogether because every time I see something pretty or something that makes me go 'OOOH' I start to covet and obsess over it. Gah, it's driving me nuts!

My latest obsessions:

Ombre Tulle Skirt from Inventory Store (sold out)

Nude Caped Cover-up from White Circus (also sold out)

Maxi Pleated Nude Skirt/Tube dress from Faire Belle

Reina Surplice Dress (Pink) from Robot Ninjas

Silky Long Sleeve Shirt (Grey) from Robot Ninjas

Drop Back Shirt Dress from Robot Ninjas

Mandarin Collar Tunic (Beige) also from Robot Ninjas

That awesome chiffon-mix-jersey skirt
from Diana Rikasari for Bloop Endorse,
available at Bloop Endorse

Ruffle dress from DR for Bloop Endorse,
available at Bloop Endorse

So I guess it's been made pretty clear that I am absolutely head over heels in love with drapes, soft-and-flowy and nude, earthy colours (except for the odd grey and pink - tell me you can resist that peterpan collar! I dare you! XP). Believe me when I say that despite running into these colours all the time online, they are friggin' hard to hunt down in malls! Everything is either white, black, grey or pink. And if you're hunting them down online most are sold out by the time you get there! This must be a trend that I am unaware of. =P

Anyhow, I'd like to give a big shoutout to Diana Rikasari for her awesome designs for Bloop Endorse and also to Robot Ninjas for having an earth-shatteringly cool name and for their awesome understated chic designs as well - and both for being homegrown! (well okay Bloop Endorse is from Indonesia and Robot Ninjas are from Singapore - but what the heck! :P) Also special mention to Inventory Store - though thanks to their delay in checking their inbox I did not succeed in obtaining the gorgeous Ombre Tulle Skirt. So yeah, thanks, thanks A LOT.

Any of you guys who know of any local independent designers putting out good stuff - let me know! Goodness knows we need more of them around! :D

Now for moar good stuff: imagine wearing one of those with something tan or camel, a straw boater hat and a pair of nude or apricot-hued mary janes or oxfords, and lie on a bed of soft brilliant green grass by a lake to this song:

Catch of the Day 5

Another catch of the day!

You know how these days the chained handles in the style of Chanel are all the rage right now? I can't go anywhere without seeing at least one lady carrying a tote of such fashion around. At first I didn't get the hype. And I certainly didn't like the tackiness of the gold chain that many were sporting.

That is, until I came across this:

The classic Chanel 2.55 reissue. In grey.

Dusty grey, quilted, soft, and with that cute-as-a-button Mademoiselle lock. I knew at once that I was in love.

I saw a replica at Nose (dimensions almost the same to the 1st pic but with a different lock) that cost RM99.90. I was willing to shell out the money for it, but it was still a bit much for me. Luckily I managed to find something similar for a fraction of the price.

Here it issss:

I know that by buying a phony bag means that I'm a phony too, and I certainly never meant to cause offense to the memory of Mademoiselle Chanel. Believe me, if I can afford the real one, I will get that one instead! If only I weren't a cash-strapped student with no choice and an inability to resist temptation.

I Want to Dress Like...

... a flapper from the 20s.

Ah, the glamour and decadence of the 20s. I love almost everything about the era; when art deco was fresh and new, when sophistication and jazz and excess luxury and liberal hedonism blended into something only I can dream of experiencing. XP I wanna be a flapper girl and relive all those golden days - well, minus the excessive jewellery and the hedonism of course! You can't wear flapper head to toe without looking like you're on your way to a Halloween costume party.

It's very VERY difficult to find genuine 20s dresses (especially flapper dresses) for cheap these days as most have become collector's items and are locked away in museums and private collections. D: Even if there are some for sale they are very very expensive.

Very very.

But of course who can resist all the amazing handiwork on these gorgeous dresses?

Miss Francesca of The Snail and the Cyclops had a very lovely delicate piece in her hands but by the time I got to it it was already long sold, and it would have been too expensive to buy anyways... T__T

Isn't it just darling?

But fret not ladies! The good news is that there ARE 20s repro dresses, but yes, they are pretty exorbitantly priced as well. But we can always dream, right? ;)

They can't beat the real flapper dresses of course, but what other choice do we have...

Here's a lil song to transport you to a smoky 20s era speakeasy.. have fun!

Catch of the Day 4

Well I didn't go thrifting or shopping or discount-hunting lately NO THANKS to my annoying nearly three-week long final exams... but I did do a lot of sighing and wishing from all the blogshops I visited while in the midst of revision. XP If I fail any of my papers I'll know why...

Anyway I snagged this very pretty cotton-ish (?) blouse from Flowers Coming for RM10. For its level of awesome prettiness I say that is a good snag. ;)

Because my camera is crap and I don't have that much of a steady hand, here's an image from the blog itself.

I can't wait to start wearing it with my high-waist pants and suspenders and mah tan brown oxfords (or the knockoff clogs... 8-D)

Do check out Flowers Coming for more vintage goodness for cheap as she's having a sale (read: VERY GOOD BUYS) on her blog right now!

And now for moarr Zooey goodness:

I Want...

THIS CLUTCH.

Nude feather clutch from Asos. $44.82

Which will look awesome with this b.e.a.utiful 20s flapper-ish dress from Topshop:

Converted to Malaysian Ringgit it should be roughly RM150 (the clutch I mean. The Topshop dress is nowhere to be found...), which I think is worth it for such a gorgeous and unique clutch! :D I'm sure it will turn heads no matter where you go. Great for a classy dinner party event thingy or as a flamboyant addition to your shopping trip. This clutch is AWESOME.

But the thing is Asos doesn't ship to Malaysia... even if it does the shipping alone will jack the price up to such great heights that I won't be able to see the rooftop. T__T

So... anyone can help me get it? With zero or minimal shipping cost? =P

Please pretty please with this video of Ms. Deschanel and Mr. Joe Gordon-Levitt on top? =D

Rock the Maxi

Just a quick post to share (or vent, more like) the latest dressing style I'm currently obsessed with: the maxi dress.

Toughen a dreamy maxi dress up with a leather jacket/blazer and a pair of boots and you'll be turning heads in no time. I can only wish that I have the height to pull it off! Most maxis don't fit me. T__T

Do enjoy this little video while I go lament over my stunted frame:

Thrifting Adventure #3

Thrifting Adventure #3 was a complete accident. I only wanted to spend Deepavali by sneaking a peek at the brand new Uniqlo store at Fahrenheit 88 - but the INSANE queue (read: Tanjung Rambutan level of INSANE) turned me off right away.

We made a quick stop at Sungei Wang for lunch, my bowl of porridge was hugilimongus (my way of saying insanely huge) and I had to walk the 'full' feeling off or else I will have a bad tummy ache for the rest of the day. And whaddaya know, I turned a corner and there it be - a thrift shop.

With EVERYTHING at RM5.

Needless to say, I made a beeline for it and started flicking clothes on hangers with a feverish frenzy.

This thrifting place is awesome for jackets, cardigans (but all oversized, sadly) and (!!) high-waisted pants, plaid skirts and an awesome pair of fall-coloured tweed shorts.

There's practically no one in the shop either so I could leisurely browse and try on stuff without having to worry if other people were gonna get to it first. :P But seriously, I don't get why people don't enjoy/appreciate thrift shops more, and crowd in places selling clothes that are obviously patterned after the styles of clothing from decades past... you get much cheaper alternatives in a thrift store, and once in a while you come across a designer label or something that looks like it got inspired by one. Sure it's hard to find something your size (especially the walking twigs) but bigger sized people with hippo thighs like me will definitely go 'rambang mata' if you take proper looks at thrift store clothes.

Plus it's environmentally friendly since you're basically recycling clothes and lessen demand for cheaply produced clothes (i.e. from Korea or Taiwan) that were most probably cheap in the first place because they use low quality cloth and cheap, unethical labour. It's not that I have any sort of hate on those clothes (I love many of them too much till I end up not wanting to buy any, and many are cleverly constructed), but when it's cheap, it's gotta be cheap for a reason.

Enough with the talk, let's see what I manage to harvest this time around...

No thanks to my lousy camera, this coat is looks like pale beige/off white but it's really light mint green. What I really want is a camel one, but this fits the bill just as well... XP Hey, RM5 for a coat, where else you gonna find that?

A high-waisted pants! I've always wanted to see what the fuss of wearing high-waisted pants is about... so what better way to jump into it by bypassing the expensive ones in the shop and to a thrift version. With only RM5 you won't be losing much anyway right? Well turns out that it fit me like a dream, and will go with my thrifted Burberry shirt and a pair of suspenders that I managed to pick up (;P) very well.

RM10 for a coat and a high-waisted pants. Wheeeeee
